Budgeting and prudent financial planning, like most but especially for the single parent, is an integral part of our lives. It's just much harder to provide for ourselves and our kids as a single-income family in a world of dual-income households.
The key to making it work is, of course, a sound financial plan to help stretch our hard-earned dollars as far as they will go.
University of Florida has created a great resource for planning and budgeting single-parent style. It's called "Success and the Single Parent: The Money Crunch". It includes worksheets with step by step instructions. It may take a few hours to think through your answers but I think it will be well worth it in the long run.
