My son came down with a cold a couple of days ago. Seems like more of a nasal cold since he isn't running a temperature and hasn't been coughing very much. Just a runny nose and a lot of congestion.
Last night, as he was sleeping he sounded really congested and woke up a couple of times coughing pretty severely from the congestion..stayed up until 5am to monitor his temperature which never got above 99 degrees.
This morning, I noticed he had little red spots under his eyes and chin. I don't know if they could even be called "spots"...more like dots.
I wasn't sure what these "dots" were so took him to the doctor to have them checked out. The doctor stated that they were tiny blood vessels under the skin popping from the coughing. He stated that they were relatively common with colds and would go away in about a week. He said nothing too serious thank goodness! Gave me quite a scare. At least learned something new and thought I'd share with others.
The doctor took some chest x-rays as a precaution since he was coughing hard enough to make the blood vessels pop. My boy did extraordinarily well in not complaining about taking them!
The x-rays came back clean. A relieved single parent.
